Perceum

In 1987 Professor Jorge Camiruaga, head of the Percussion Department at the
Music School of the University of Montevideo, founded the group PERCEUM to
promote the rich repertoire of new music especially written for percussion
instruments in this century as well as the traditional rhythms and compositions of
Uruguayan music. This ensemble, which also features the percussionists Ricardo
Gómez and Marcelo Zanolli, has become one of the most interesting and
stimulating options of the national music scene.

The ensemble has performed an enormous number of works, ranging from classical
percussion repertoire to the latest in Latin-American compositions and to works
commissioned from the most prominent composers of Uruguay written especially for
the group—most of which were presented as Uruguayan premieres. These
compositions were performed at the most prestigious concert halls in the country and abroad.
